Canez

The phrase "it takes a village to raise a child" is certainly true here. The children run wild and everyone looks after each other. People aren't afraid to spank each other's kids. They share what they have with each other. They don't feel sorry for themselves. They don't know any different. To them, this is how life is lived.

Hope

Children know laughter; They know tears

Children know peace; They know chaos

Children know acceptance; They know rejection

Children know joy; They know pain

Children know abundance; They know lack

Children know health; They know illness

Children know fulfillment; They know emptiness

Children know hope; They know dismay

Children know love; They know hatred

What they don’t know is WHY!

At the bottom of the Guest House is where I've spent most of my free time.

Shopping in Haiti

Shopping is set up a little differently. But, you still can buy pretty much anything you can buy in the states.

You don't have to go to a gallery for art, just walk down the street.

Hungry? Stop for a snack

Need auto supplies?

There's the "variety" shops

There's the bedding stores

The shoe shops have more shoes than DSW

This has to be a one-stop-shop

No price is ever set in stone. They will haggle with you and make you a deal. Whatever it takes to make the sale, they will do. Even if it includes following you as you walk away. Most items you end up getting for half price or less. Can you imagine walking into DSW and telling the clerk you really don't want to pay $50 for that pair of shoes and they reply with "ok, how about $30?"... then you start to walk away and they yell out "OK, $25!"....

Port-au-Prince

Never in my life have I seen such a beautiful place with such destruction. The backdrop is something you would imagine in your wildest dreams. Gorgeous, lush landscape. Huge palm trees. Mountains stuck in the clouds floating by. Colorful plants and tall trees with vibrant buds on them. In front of the beauty is the reality of Haiti. Rubble. Chaos. Poverty. Broken buildings. Broken spirits. Tragedy.

VBS- Haiti Stlye

We went to a school to do VBS. Their school is slightly different from one you might see here in the states!

The scenery is a little different, too. It is gorgeous!! I wouldn't mind looking at these beautiful mountains everyday!

The kids were in class when we arrived.

They had a great time making crafts and hearing the Bible stories.

The kids who did not get tickets lined the fence to watch. Me, being me, wanted to find a way to sneak them in.

Earlier in the week, a group went and finished building this covered structure for the kids to have a place to convene. It sure came in handy and was nice to have a place to get out from the sun.

The kids got to make salvation bracelets
